UK Football Teams

Many fans in the UK believe that their country is the true home of football, although today this claim can be fairly challenged around the globe. The recent World Cup tournament in South Africa showed that the home players from UK football teams were ultimately outclassed by their international competitors and need to raise their game in future.

Still, the game is played by countless enthusiasts in UK football teams, with scratch sides based on village pubs to small town leagues and finally reaching up to the giddy heights of the internationally renowned Premier League. The passion of players from the Rose & Crown can often match or even exceed that of professional players.

Perhaps one of the most unusually restricted football leagues plays out on the tiny Isles of Scilly off the west coast of Cornwall, where the Woolpack Wanderers take on the Garrison Gunners in an endless round of matches. Another unique feature of these games is that all their matches are both home and away!

Much more typical of the English game are clubs playing in the Conference leagues, with teams like AFC Wimbledon or Grimsby Town playing in front of a few thousand devotees. The same passionate story is played out across the UK in towns like Arbroath in Scotland or Abergavenny in Wales.

No discussion of UK football teams would be complete, however, without looking at the professional sides that have become a major global brand. The Premier League alone has 20 clubs, with another 172 fiercely contesting their places in the other three leagues. Although it may have more than one home now, football will always be at home here.
